Starting a new project can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be. When you have strong partners, who are driven to deliver results with you, incredible things can happen.

Every project is different, and there are dozens of ways to develop content, but below are seven basic steps we try to follow within the work we create.

STEP 1:  Building Connection

A lot of people think building great creative starts with a solid brief, and while that’s not necessarily false, it’s not the most important thing for a successful project.  Connection and building a solid relationship with the people you’re working with often leads to the most spectacular results.

STEP 2:  Defining The Need

This is where you pour your heart out, and where we listen. Sharing not only what needs to happen, but what you hope and dream will happen, helps to create strong guidance and direction for how to succeed. This is also where we gain a better understanding of what challenges you face, what things you don’t want to see, and what things you’re currently proud of that we should leverage.

STEP 3:  Outlining The Brief

Once we have our marching orders it’s important to feedback the information we heard so that, together, we know we’re all on the same page.  This doesn’t have to be an official document (some of the most successful projects came from a two sentence email), but it does need to show a good understanding of what needs to be done.

STEP 4:  Conceptual Development

This stage looks different for every project.  It can have multiple rounds of review, or only one round of review.  It can start with brainstorm sessions and ideation workshops, or it can start with sketches and writings on the back of a napkin.  While the process is typically outlined in the brief, the main focus of this stage is to deliver solid creative thinking that will solve your needs.

STEP 5:  Aligning On A Concept

Here’s where your insight is critical. This step is entirely dedicated to agreeing on a direction and a clear path forward for success, before we move further down the road into production. Typically a fun moment in the process, this is where all of our efforts up to this point come together to form an incredible solution that everyone can agree with.

STEP 6:  Bringing It To Life

Depending on the need, this stage has a few nuances, but essentially this is where we take all the ideas and what we agreed upon and move it forward into a final creation or execution.  You’re brought into this part of the process as early and often as possible, and it ends when we’ve completed the tasks at hand from the original brief.

STEP 7:  Delivery & Celebration

Okay, technically, this isn’t a “stage” in the creative development. But, it is one of the most rewarding moments within the process.  And, while we don’t always “celebrate” with a party and champaign, we do take a moment to look back at the original conversations and needs outlined, and enjoy the success of seeing it all come together in the end.
